FCRR Researcher Receives Developing Scholar Award

Dr. Jeanne Wanzek, a researcher at the Florida Center for Reading Research and Florida State University College of Education faculty member, will be honored on April 27, 2015 with a Developing Scholar Award. The award, whose recipients are nominated by peers and selected by the Council on Research and Creativity, are given to mid-career, associate professor level faculty to support their research programs. The recipients receive a one-time award of $10,000 for research expenses.

“I am honored to be a recipient of FSU’s Developing Scholar Award,” stated Dr. Wanzek, whose research examines effective reading instruction and intervention with a focus on children with reading difficulties. “My hope is that my work can be meaningful and helpful to educators and students with disabilities in the community. These pursuits would not be possible without the support of FSU and my colleagues.”

Dr. Wanzek received her Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of Texas at Austin and joined the faculty at Florida State in 2007. In addition to conducting research at FCRR, Dr. Wanzek maintains a faculty standing in the College of Education’s School of Teacher Education and Special Education Program. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers, 14 book chapters and has presented more than 70 times at the national, state and local levels. Dr. Wanzek has also secured 5.1 million dollars in competitive federal funding to pursue intensive intervention research in reading.
